Today, I’m sharing the most important safety tip for your home: The 4-Hour Rule.
The Danger of the 8-Hour Tea Light.
It’s tempting to buy 8-hour tea lights thinking they last longer, but using them in a wax burner is a serious safety hazard. Here is why I always tell my customers: USE 4-hour, NOT 8-hour.
-Excessive Heat: An 8-hour tea light creates a much larger, more intense flame. This sits far too close to your burner dish, making it dangerously hot.
-Cracks and Fire Risks: That extreme heat can cause "hairline cracks" in the ceramic or glass. Over time, this weakens the burner and could even cause it to catch fire.
-Damaged Glaze: If you see the bottom of your burner turning black or smelling like acrid smoke, it’s because the 8-hour flame is "cooking" the glaze off your burner.
-Scent Killer: High heat burns off the fragrance oil in your wax far too quickly. You’ll find your scent disappears in no time, leaving you with hardly any aroma at all!
Choosing the Right Burner.
Safety isn’t just about the candle; it’s about the burner too. I always recommend burners that are 10cm or taller.
Anything smaller than 10cm doesn't have enough "breathing room" between the tea light flame and the wax dish. Without that space, the wax gets too hot, too fast, which is exactly what we want to avoid.
